The Politics of Sustainable Fashion…

Blondell Reynolds Brown1 337x452 The Politics of Sustainable Fashion...Philadelphia, Pa – SA VA, a locally renown ethical clothing and accessories brand, recently hosted Philadelphia’s Councilwoman-at-large, Blondell Reynolds Brown, at their flagship store for an exclusive meet/greet event. Philadelphia is steadfast in becoming a full-fledged sustainable municipality, and city officials are diligent in promoting and supporting dynamic efforts that strengthen this goal. This was truly a dynamic event, and diverse. In modern times, it is common practice to correlate fashion with entertainment (music and film) and even sports, but politics? Not so much. However, social fashion and politics are correlated because their both designed to put people first! (at least in theory, but that’s for another post at another time) Albeit most would hesitate n any  will allow you to meet the Councilwoman in person and hear more about her work. Sarah Van Aken, owner of SA VA and SVA Holdings Corporation,  talked passionately about the transformation of her brand into a socially sustainable apparel company.

SA VA: Locally made, globally inspired and community focused!

90% the garments sold at SA VA are made in a garment center, adjacent to the boutique, and are produced with fair-trade-and often-eco friendly materials. Through local living wage job creation and community partnerships with both the Career Wardrobe and the People’s Emergency Center we are striving to create a new kind of fashion community.
